Historic Doors designs and fabricates custom doors and entryways for private residences, universities, public buildings, churches and commercial properties. Specializing in fine woodworking for historic reconstruction, restoration and new construction, Historic Doors can provide research, design and fabrication services for single doors or multiple entryway projects. We work directly with architects, builders and owners, as well as with preservationists and restoration contractors.

Our mission is to enhance the impact of each building on which we work through fine craftsmanship and the design and construction of doors and entryways that are compatible with a building’s historical or architectural style.

Since 1985, Historic Doors, formerly known as Hendricks Woodworking, has been located in rural Berks County, Pennsylvania, a convenient drive from New York City and Philadelphia.

Founder Steve Hendricks brings more than twenty year’s experience in skilled woodworking and a special interest in the study of doors and their historical evolution. Born and raised in British Columbia, Canada, Steve holds a degree in history and has amassed a unique collection of textbooks, references and measured drawings related to doors. He directed the company’s compilation of the reference work, Historic Doors: A Compilation of Drawings from the Historical American Building Survey. Steve has also authored a special report, “Point of Entry: An Overview of Historic Doors,” for the publication Traditional Building, and has taught a course with The Institute of Classical Architecture & Classical America in New York City.

Steve is joined by his son, Justin, and a team of talented and experienced craftsmen who continue the tradition of blending craftsmanship with attention to historic context and classical design.
